A: Who are the Quakers?

Quakers are also called The Religious Society of Friends, but the term Quaker is now used most of the time. We are also called ‘Friends’, a shortened version of the original term 'Friends of Truth'.

As Quakers we have no dogmas or creed, believing that the truth cannot be reduced to a form of words. Nor do we have any one definition of God but we have the conviction that each of us can have direct experience of the Spirit of God and that our religious insights, attitudes and practices should come together in a way of life.

Anyone can attend a Quaker Meeting for Worship and the best way to understand what happens is to come along and experience it.

A Quaker Meeting for Worship is based on silence, with spoken ministry from anyone present who feels impelled to speak.
